The new focus in health care speaks in a profound and fundamental
way to the beauty of creative and healing energy. This energy is based
on a humble acknowledgment of both our personal and physical wounds and
our vulnerability. Imagine the healing power of beauty brought to the
hospital bed, to the dying patient and their family, or to the cancer
patient going through chemotherapy.
95% of Americans say they believe in God and religious affiliation is
positively correlated with the psychological well-being of patients. Our
brains and bodies contain spiritual wiring and it matters a great deal
whether patients know they are being prayed for. It also matters a great
deal when there is beauty in circumstances of suffering and sickness.
Our goals for bringing the beauty of faith and healing into the Health
Care Environment are to assist in:
- Providing prayer cards with vibrant art and inspirational
quotes on the pillows of patients during their hospital stay, during
tuck in rounds.
- Providing beautiful gift baskets of inspiration for
cancer patients receiving chemotherapy during holidays (baskets include
prayer cards, stationery, a small journal and a scented candle).
- Demonstrating the value of beauty (art, spirituality,
& compassion) in bringing hope and healing to patients as a part
of the caregiving process for all patients (through ministry projects,
including our prayer request site).
- The integration of beauty and art into the hospital
environment (for patients, family members, and healthcare providers)
by providing colorful posters with inspirational quotes on the walls
of the patients' rooms, and quiet places of beauty and silence for meditation
or prayer.
- Providing education in spirituality, aesthetics, and
healing for those in the healthcare profession (through workshops and
speaking engagements on spirituality and healing).
- Supporting the research, training, and education of aesthetics
and spirituality in healing, along with support of cancer research (through
the NSABP, which has designed and conducted clinical trials for over
50 years that have changed the standard of treatment in breast and colorectal
cancer).
Your contribution
goes towards gift baskets to cancer patients in the hospital during Christmas
and towards printing of prayer cards.
